Following a horrific terrorist attack which has left 18 dead, Andrew Rosindell M.P. has demanded to know from Prime Minister, David Cameron, whether the UK is fully able to prevent those hell-bent on inflicting harm on British citizens from entering the country.
Following a lengthy statement from the Prime Minister on the Tunisia attack and the European Council, Andrew demanded to know whether, at this moment of crisis, the UK truly full control over its own borders, saying:
“Does the Prime Minister agree that it is fundamental that we retake complete sovereignty over control of our British borders if we are to prevent this evil ideology from creeping further on to our shores?”
The Prime Minister replied:
“It is important to have strong border control, but the situation in Calais demonstrates the importance, in the age of ferries, the Eurotunnel and all the rest of it, of working with our partners to deliver the security that we need.”
Following his question in the chamber, Andrew felt the PM’s answer needed to go further, saying:
“The peaceful, liberal, democratic countries of the world face a new and unique threat from Islamist terrorism. It is a new, global threat, which can strike at any time. At this time, therefore it is absolutely vital that we are able to control our own borders. I hope that the Prime Minister is able to tackle this issue head-on as part of his renegotiation with the European Union and continue to keep our people safe. We must control our own borders and decide who is allowed into our country and who is not!”
