Yesterday, Andrew Rosindell M.P., as both Chairman of the Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands APPG, and as Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister, attended a number of commemorations for ANZAC Day - a solemn day of reflection for Australian and New Zealand troops who have died fighting for King and Country since the 1915 Gallipoli Campaign.
Its important to acknowledge that the ANZACs who died both in the First World War and Second World War did so not just for the security of their homes in the Pacific, but for an Empire headed by the United Kingdom - so their sacrifice is should be acknowledged by Britons as much as they should for our Australian and Kiwi cousins.
Andrew said the following on X,
On this ANZAC Day, 25th April, we honour the valour and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli - a moment that became the crucible of nationhood for both countries. Though born of tragedy, that day forged a spirit of courage and unity that endures to this day. As Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, I pay tribute to the deep and unbreakable bonds between our three nations, which are inextricably bound by a shared heritage, under The Crown. We will remember them. Lest we forget. God Save The King!
As Chairman of the Australia, New Zealand (ANZAC) and Pacific Islands All Party Parliamentary Group, I was proud to attend this year’s ANZAC Day parade at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, the immensely moving ceremony at Westminster Abbey, both with HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh in attendance and finally, the wreath laying ceremony in @UKParliament at Westminster Hall. Thank you to @AusHouseLondon for organising such fitting commemorations to honour our shared history and salute the ANZAC heroes.
