“Together, we are not just the greatest force for freedom and democracy—but we are the greatest force for world peace and stability. Our song is not yet sung; we’re just getting started.”
In a landmark moment for the movement, the Conservative Friends of CANZUK (CF of CANZUK) celebrated their official parliamentary launch on this week (12 March 2025) in the historic setting of the Jubilee Room within the Palace of Westminster.
Hosted by Vice-President Andrew Rosindell MP, the event saw a distinguished gathering of parliamentarians, High Commission representatives, sister-party members, financial patrons, and dedicated supporters—all united by a vision of deeper cooperation between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
With rousing speeches from CF of CANZUK President Lord Hannan, Vice-President Rosindell, and Directors David Moore, Elliott Malik, and Jamie Bartch, the message was clear: CANZUK is coming.
The movement rests firmly on three pillars—trade, security, and heritage—offering a compelling vision of unity between these kindred nations.
Speakers passionately reaffirmed their unwavering support for Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, expressing deep outrage at the challenges these brother nations face from both adversaries and so-called allies alike.
The evening was not just about rhetoric—it was a full celebration of the shared culture and identity that define CANZUK. Attendees sampled a rich array of food and drink sourced from across the four nations, from Australian Tim Tams to exquisite English wines from Hampshire. The spirit of camaraderie was palpable, as guests engaged in lively discussion, networking, and a shared enthusiasm for the possibilities that lie ahead.
CANZUK ON THE RISE: WHAT’S NEXT?
The launch was just the beginning of an ambitious schedule for CF of CANZUK in 2025. The next event on the calendar, set for the 19th of June, will kick off a highly anticipated lecture series with a keynote speech from Lord Roberts. Further details will be released in due course, but expectations are high as momentum builds for this growing movement.
Of course, such initiatives require financial backing, and CF of CANZUK extended heartfelt thanks to those who have already stepped up to support the cause. Special recognition was given to UKSOL, Connor Mason, and Thomas Hogg for funding the launch, as well as to Treasury Wines and Coates & Seely for their generous contributions of CANZUK wine. With continued support from members and patrons, CF of CANZUK is determined to ensure that the Conservative Party—and eventually other UK political parties—fully embrace the CANZUK vision.
A NEW ERA FOR THE ANGLOSPHERE?
For over seven decades, the idea of an integrated CANZUK alliance has struggled to take root in a world dominated by American economic and military hegemony. Following the decline of British imperial influence in the 1940s and 50s, the concept of Imperial Federation faded, giving way to an era where London, Ottawa, and Canberra fell in line behind Washington. The assumption was simple: why forge an independent foreign policy when aligning with the United States offered security and prosperity?
But that assumption is now being tested, as Britain and, perhaps most acutely, Canada, grapple with a new reality: no guarantee of enduring American beneficence—only an empire operating in its own interests.
The latest economic assaults on Canada, alongside threats to its sovereignty, have laid bare an uncomfortable truth: America First means everyone else comes second. As Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre made clear in his speech this February, Canada welcomes partnership with the United States but will not accept subjugation. This sentiment is resonating across the Anglosphere. The era of unthinking deference to Washington is over, and a new question looms large—will Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand choose to remain American vassals, or will they chart their own course?
THE TIME FOR CANZUK IS NOW
For decades, globalisation and tariff reduction seemed to undercut the economic argument for CANZUK. Why forge exclusive trade agreements when global markets were increasingly open? But with protectionism back in full force, tariffs on the rise, and international economic uncertainty growing, the case for a CANZUK free trade area is stronger than ever.
What once seemed an insurmountable obstacle—America’s overwhelming dominance—is now retreating of its own accord. The challenge for CANZUK advocates is no longer convincing the world of its relevance, but seizing the opportunity before them. If the United States can no longer be relied upon, then the answer is clear: Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand must rely upon each other.
As David Moore, Director of Conservative Friends of CANZUK explains:
“This ambitious project aims to generate a new suprastate to counter belligerent powers exploiting global anarchy from a realist perspective. However, CANZUK is not constructed from a vacuum; it also represents cratometamorphosis—the reorganisation of an existing nation. It builds upon the British Commonwealth of Nations, deriving strength from century-old political and cultural bonds that have weathered world wars and constant crises. Alongside these enduring bonds is an economic partnership marked by exceptional and dynamic growth. According to 2021 calculations by the IMF, the combined GDP of CANZUK nations approaches $7 trillion. This impressive economic foundation highlights the clear potential of CANZUK as a nascent concept. Our exploration posits CANZUK as a potent attempt at rebalancing the global order and empowering the Anglosphere to act against emergent threats.”
The Conservative Friends of CANZUK have made their position unambiguous—this is the dawn of a new partnership. One that prioritises security, prosperity, and sovereignty. One that honours shared history and common values. One that ensures the English-speaking world is not merely a collection of lesser nations orbiting a declining superpower, but a formidable force in its own right.
As Lord Hannan declared at the launch: “Together, we are not just the greatest force for freedom and democracy—but we are the greatest force for world peace and stability. Our song is not yet sung; we’re just getting started.”
