“Raise the Colours” in Havering!

M.P. backs campaign to fly the flag across the borough and for Town Hall bureaucrats not to take them down.

I am appalled that some local authorities across the country are reportedly removing Union Jack and Cross of St. George flags from lampposts and public spaces, even though these have been paid for and proudly raised by local residents in their own communities.

Our national flags are symbols of the unity of our island nation and the millennia of our history. They belong to every citizen of this country and should be flown freely and without interference by woke politicians, town hall bureaucrats, in every town, village and borough

These attempts by officials and left-wing councils to suppress this patriotic expression of the people, is nothing short of an affront to our national identity.

As the Member of Parliament for Romford, as well as being Chairman of the Flags & Heraldry Committee in Parliament, I am calling on Havering Council to give a 100% assurance that they will not remove any Union Jack, Cross of St. George, or Essex flag that may be respectfully and safely displayed by local people in public locations, in our borough.

These flags would have been purchased privately, at no cost to the taxpayer, and their removal would be a total waste of public funds, especially at a time when Havering Council has no money. If local people chose to fly the Union Jack or Cross of St. George in their road, then good for them!  Havering Council should not be removing them, unless there is some kind of serious safety issue, which is very hard to imagine.

I will be writing formally to the Leader of Havering Council, Cllr. Ray Morgan, to seek his assurance that Havering Council resources will not be used to undermine the patriotic spirit of our community, especially in a town such as Romford, which is deeply proud of our nation’s heritage.

Furthermore, I am asking every councillor in Havering, to support the campaign led by Flag Force UK, which I am pleased to endorse. This initiative encourages the display of our national, country and county flags across the United Kingdom, and I believe it is a vital step in promoting national and regional unity and identity.

Let us “raise the colours” - not just in Havering, but across Britain and stand firm against those who seek to cancel our national identity.

I call upon residents of every street in every part of Romford and Havering to display our national flags throughout their neighbourhoods, a sea of red, white and blue across our town will give us all something be proud of!
