STATEMENT BY
ANDREW ROSINDELL MP

The continued use of hotels in our towns - not least the Bell Hotel in Epping, just a few miles from Romford - to accommodate illegal asylum seekers is utterly unacceptable and must end immediately.

Our communities and my constituents did not consent to this. Across Romford, applications for HMOs are exploding, and residents are rightly concerned about crime and anti-social behaviour in normally quiet residential streets which were built as family homes.

People no longer feel safe on our streets. I hear it from people all over Romford constantly now. The government must take immediate action before the situation spirals further. The patience of the British people has absolutely run out.

This is now becoming a national emergency. The current approach is unsustainable and is fuelling widespread public anger. I am afraid that we cannot expect anything but civil unrest if nothing is done. Our towns are being placed under intolerable strain, and local people are being pushed to the back of the queue for services and housing as other councils from inner London aquire properties to send over more people to Havering.

As I have done since word first broke that hotels were being used to house those that have entered our precious nation illegally, I am today reaffirming the call for every hotel housing illegal immigrants to cease doing so immediately. Those who enter this country illegally must be detained in secure facilities and processed swiftly. If they have no legal right to be here, they must be deported without delay, and this includes the tens of thousands which have arrived here over the last five years.

The British people are fair and compassionate, but often slow to quarrel. However, we will not tolerate being taken for fools. The integrity of our borders, the security of our communities, the unity of our nation, and the rights of British citizens must come first.

As Romford's MP, I will not stay silent about this crisis facing our nation. My constituents have had enough and so have I!
