Andrew Rosindell has announced that he is throwing his support behind Fleur Anderson M.P.'s campaign to ban the use of plastic in wet wipes.
Speaking on BBC Politics London, Andrew said "I'm supporting Fleur in what she is saying. We need laws that stop horrible things being thrown into our rivers, damaging our environment, harming animals, and what Fleur is proposing is eminently sensible. There may need to be some kind of transition before they can be completely banned but the principle she is fighting for is completely correct and I support her in what she is trying to do."
Andrew also suggested that in the period before they are banned "companies producing them should be charged for the cost of the environmental damage they are causing."
The M.P. for Putney is using a Ten Minute Rule Bill to propose the ban.

"River cleanliness has been very much in the news in recent weeks and I am absolutely clear that I am firmly on the side of cleaner rivers. We must cherish our rivers and do whatever we can to keep them clean and beautiful. Whether it's the great River Thames flowing through our city, or the Rivers Rom and Ravensbourne in my constituency, it is vital we clean up our rivers. A significant cause of river pollution are the 'fatbergs' of wet wipes, wrongly disposed of and made up of non-degradable plastics. I urge my constituents to properly dispose of wet wipes in the bin, but it is time that Government now take action as well, by banning this type of wet wipe."
