I am very glad that following my letter to the Home Secretary and parliamentary questions on the issue, the Government have reconsidered the decision to house these asylum seekers in Havering and they will no longer be using the Palms Hotel in Hornchurch.
The government has set out its plan to return life to as near normal as we can, for as many people as we can, as quickly and fairly as possible in order to safeguard livelihoods, but in a way that is safe and continues to protect our NHS.
The Prime Minister’s statement on Sunday, followed up on Monday by more detailed guidance, gave the country a real sense of the way forward. It is so important that now more than ever, we all follow the Government guidance. If we want to beat this virus we must keep going.
I have written to the Home Secretary, The Rt. Hon. Priti Patel M.P. asking her to take immediate action to secure our borders against Covid-19. The only people travelling to the U.K. at the moment should be stranded British citizens returning home, or those coming here for an essential purpose.
Through the next weeks and months our local and national community must rally together like never before. If you have a vulnerable or elderly neighbour, check whether there is anything you can do for them. Equally, if you are self isolating, it's important to let people know.
This is a very difficult time for our nation and for people across the world. We must do all we can to help fight Coronavirus (Covid-19) and defeat this wicked virus. I urge people who have symptoms to follow the Government and N.H.S. advice which can be found on this link
