Romford is not going Labour

"Well done to the people of Romford for voting overwhelmingly last week for a Conservative Mayor and a Conservative London Assembly Member for Havering.  It was hugely disappointing that Susan Hall did not defeat Sadiq Khan. We were simply outnumbered by Labour’s block vote in inner London. However, the re-election of Keith Prince to City Hall, by a large majority, showed that despite the national political situation, Romford is not going Labour any time soon!

With Labour running City Hall and Labour in the administration at the Town Hall, as Romford’s Conservative M.P., I will not shy away from standing up to fight against Labour’s left-wing ideology which is so damaging to our local community. The people of Romford do not want to see their town turn into just another part of Labour’s London!  They made that clear last Thursday.  Havering has a unique character which stems from our Essex roots.  It is only since the 1960s that we were made to become part of what they termed ‘Greater London’.  We may orbit London, we may travel to London for work, day’s out and sightseeing, but Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and Rainham are not London.

Urgent reform to the way regional government operates is now desperately needed to free boroughs like ours from the central control of the socialist Mayor.  Havering has very different needs to that of inner London and our autonomy must be restored.  Transport for London must be made by law to offer the Freedom Pass, Oyster Card and all travel schemes to residents of all boroughs that TfL serves, so we cannot be threatened with losing these benefits as Labour always attempt to do; Policing must be reformed so that boroughs like Havering get our fair share of resources to stop London levels of crime hitting our local streets; and planning and development must be decided locally.  We cannot allow the Mayor to force us to completely urbanise our cherished ‘town and country borough’.  In short, Havering must be fully independent from ‘City Hall’ and as your M.P., I will fight to make it happen!"
