On Monday this week, Andrew Rosindell was acknowledged by the Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) for the completion of his IPT fellowship ‘in industry’.
Andrew was joined at the House of Lords River Room reception by several other Parliamentarians, such as Sir David Amess MP, Emma McClarkin MEP, and Huw Irranca-Davies MP, who were all congratulated for their work in various industries and companies.
The IPT is a charitable organisation that works to help educate Parliamentarians about the challenges and day-to-day work of the many different industries and companies that make up the diverse British economy. It does this by enrolling Members of Parliament on ‘fellowships’, which embed them in a particular company for a set period of time.
Andrew’s fellowship was split across 2 industries – trade and heritage. In 2009, he travelled to India to see how Indian businesses were developing strong trading relationships with flagship British brands, and more recently completed a placement with the Heritage Alliance, which saw him visit a variety of historic royal palaces and war memorials to learn about the challenges involved in preserving them.
The awards were attended by a variety of companies from all sorts of industries, such as Caterpillar, CH2M Hill (who are working on the CrossRail project), the Anglo-American mining company, and StatOil, among others. Andrew himself was congratulated with a caricature of himself next to various notable British royal palaces.
Following the event, he said:
“Its an honour to have been acknowledged today by the IPT. Many MPs are elected to Parliament with little or no working experience of the ‘real world’ outside politics, and so its really important that they learn as much as we can about how different industries work, especially if we end up voting on legislation that will affect them!
I thoroughly enjoyed my time working in India and in the British royal palaces, and I thank the IPT for giving me that opportunity. I’m looking forward to working with them in the future, and I hope that other MPs make use of the fantastic opportunities they put on offer!”
