During Transport Oral Questions, Andrew Rosindell MP asked the Minister if she was aware that while it is illegal for a taxi to refuse access to someone with a guide dog, this is still occurring in 42% of cases. He called for the Government to “bring in strict new guidelines to raise awareness [of the issue] throughout the industry”. In response, Ghani said that licensing authorities have the power to stop this happening by training drivers to understand their duties and prosecuting them when they fail to comply. She added that the Government is considering Rosindell’s recommendation (in considering the Task and Finish Group’s report) and “will publish a response in due course”.
